Your social posts have always done more than collect likes.
Now Google will show you exactly how much they pull in search.
For years, that performance lived in a black box. As of this month, the box is open.
Quick answer: Google Search Console platform properties are a new property type that lets brands track how their social and video content performs in Google Search and Discover. You verify your Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube account, then see the clicks, impressions, and search queries driving people to your posts.
What are Google Search Console platform properties?
Platform properties are a new kind of property inside Google Search Console. Until now, Search Console mostly reported on your website and your Google Business Profile. This update extends that visibility to the places your audience already spends time.
Google currently supports four platforms:
- TikTok
- X
- YouTube
Once a platform is connected, you get two reports:
- Performance report. Your clicks, impressions, and other metrics, with filters to see which specific posts and search queries drive the most traffic.
- Insights report. A high-level view of recent traffic trends, your top-performing posts, and how people discover your account on Google.
The rollout is gradual, so if you do not see it yet, it is coming over the next few weeks.
Why “social is just for engagement” no longer holds up
Most brands still treat social as a place to collect likes and reach followers. That view leaves value on the table.
At Consumer Fusion, we talk about reputation as two halves. The reactive half is managing reviews and responding to what people say about you. The proactive half is what you put out into the world: social, content, and the signals that shape how you show up before anyone has a problem.
Platform properties are Google confirming that the proactive half matters for discovery. Your social content is not just talking to existing followers. It is earning impressions and clicks from people searching on Google, and now you can prove it.
For a brand investing in social, that is the difference between a vanity channel and a measurable driver of visibility.
How it works, and the catch for multi-location brands
Setup is straightforward for a single account. Open the property selector in Search Console, choose one of the four platforms, and follow the steps to verify and authorize the connection.
The catch shows up when you manage more than one location.
Verification is per account
There is no corporate-level rollup. Each social account is verified on its own, which means a brand with 40 locations could be looking at 40 separate verifications.
Franchisee-controlled accounts need a plan
If your locations or franchisees own their own handles, someone has to coordinate access. Deciding who verifies what, and who can see the data, is a real operational question before the reporting becomes useful.
This is exactly the kind of coordination that trips up multi-location and franchise brands, and it is worth sorting out early rather than account by account later.
What multi-location and franchise brands should do now
- Verify your active platforms. Start with the channels you actually post on. There is no benefit to connecting an account you do not use.
- Set a coordination plan for locations. Decide who owns verification and reporting access across your locations or franchisees before you scale it out.
- Watch what earns search traffic. Use the Performance report to find which content themes and formats show up in search, then repeat what works across your locations.
- Keep it in context. Platform properties complement your website SEO and local optimization. They do not replace them. Think of it as one more view into your full digital presence, not a new strategy.
Frequently asked questions
Which platforms does Google Search Console support? Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. Google may add more over time, but these four are supported at launch.
Does this replace website SEO or local optimization? No. Platform properties are a reporting layer for social and video content. Your website and Google Business Profile still do the heavy lifting for local search.
Where does this data show up? In both Google Search and Google Discover, through the Performance and Insights reports inside Search Console.
Why does this matter more for franchises? Because verification happens per account with no corporate rollup, multi-location and franchise brands have to coordinate access across many handles. The payoff is a clearer picture of which locations and which content are earning search visibility.
